The Flowers festival is one of the most anticipated exciting and beloved events in Medellín. This festival, celebrating the paisa identity and culture, has its roots in 1957. It began as a way to pay homage to the silleteros, farmers from Santa Elena who carried enormous and colorful floral arrangements on their backs, called "silletas," to the city markets. Today, this event not only honors that tradition but also highlights the incredible floral diversity of the region and the slogan “The City of Eternal Spring ,or in spanish, La Ciudad de la Eterna Primavera”
The Silleteros Parade is undoubtedly without doubt the most awaited or event. More than 500 silleteros of all ages will walk with their impressive flower-laden silletas. The parade starts at Puente de Guayaquil, continues along the Avenida Regional, passes through San Juan Street and Ferrocarril Avenue, and ends at Plaza Mayor. The Festival de Flores is not just a cultural celebration; it is also an economic engine for Medellín. During these days, the city welcomes thousands of tourists, boosting hotels, restaurants, and local businesses. Furthermore, this event strengthens the sense of belonging and cultural identity of the paisa people.
But the question many ask is, where and when is it held? The festival takes place all over Medellín, with activities in parks, plazas, and main avenues. And this year is no exception! From July 28 to August 11, 2024, the city will be dancing with music, colors, and flowers. In the past, many artists have left their mark over the years, with performances by Juanes, Carlos Vives, J Balvin, Marc Anthony, and Karol G—a true parade of musical talent.
So, what can we expect from the 2024 Feria de las Flores? This year, the Feria de las Flores promises to be more spectacular than ever. The concert "La Eterna," scheduled for August 3 at the Atanasio Girardot Stadium, will be one of the highlights. Look who will be on stage!
